Ally Vyner

Ally Vyner

Penang

Ally Vyner was an artist who lived during the Covid-19 war. A team of agents discovered her workshop in a slum village in Penang, Malaysia, locally referred to as a 'KamPong' village. Her workshop remains remarkably intact. Ally was an aspiring prop maker, and appeared to be a visitor to Penang when the Corona Virus outbreak occurred. She explored many mediums and forms of artistic expression. Her work is currently under investigation, as more and more links are being discovered between this mysterious artist, and others around the world.

Her time and place of death are unknown.

"It is clear this box was for decorative purposes, see the inscriptive symbol on the lid? It appears to have elements of the fantasy creature the 'Dragon'. It is interesting how similar this box is too others we have found in other locations... I wonder what the link could be?"

"The box discovery is truly fascinating. The design is created using a burning technique by hand! This makes for a lovely authentic piece that really captures the essence of the time. A world where there was much less assimilation of man and machine."

“This handle’s purpose is unclear – many in our team think that it was designed to be a tool handle – however I know that they are all wrong! To me it is obvious that this ‘handle’ was element to a larger sculpture. I imagine the artist would have had several of these made in order to form an elaborate sculpture of a building of sorts. These pieces the pillars.”

Pieces were cut using cold saw. The areas where welding would occur where sanded back with an angle grinder. After constructing a welding jig, it was welded together, then the welds were ground smooth.

Ally's future log: "Cut ply wood stool top. Prime, paint, seal steel. Burn scale texture in ply wood with soldering iron. Prime with wood glue (scales only). Paint with acrylics and use spray sealant."

"Another build that was intended for the 'fantasy' genre. However it would appear Ally's vision for this piece never came to fruition, quite tragic. You can see in her planning documents to see what she envisioned for this piece."

6mm aluminium, hard wood (preferably dark for future), flat rivets

Blade was cut out of the 6mm aluminium sheet, it was then hand filed. Ally's future log: Blade should be finished hand filing, then polished. The handle must then be constructed, and rivetted onto the blade. Decorative carving and engraving can then be carried out.

"This blade is believed to be elven forged and used by the most beautifully assembled materials and processes sacred to the elves and their realm. Unfortunately I believe they deserted the humans after they lost hope in them."

Nidhogg Dragon Sculpture

Anya Vauxinberg

Incomplete. Due to Corona Virus war and pandemic.

280x140mm

Materials:

Techniques:

Additional Notes:

Monster Clay, polymer clay (teeth), beads (eyes), steel wire, hard wood base, aluminium foil.

An armature was built using thick steel wire, aluminium foil, masking tape, a wooden circular base and expoxy resin. The artist then covered the shape with clay and started to block out basic muscle forms. The sculpture was refined with various tools, eyes were added (black beads). The begginnings of teeth were also added.

Ally's future process: Finishing details such as spines and scales must be added, this will be done by making the spines and teeth out of polymer clay, then inserting them into the sculpture. Scales will be carved into the sculpture by hand (with tools). It is even possible to make a texturising tool with polymer clay in order to 'roll on' the scale pattern.

"FANTASTIC! This particular dragon, the 'Nidhogg' would have been lost to history if it were not for this sculpture! I only wish it was more complete... Ally had noted that, "In Norse mythology, Níðhöggr is a dragon/serpent who gnaws at a root of the world tree, Yggdrasil."

"The craftsmanship and attention to detail in this work is astounding.  The creature depicted by this sculpture has an aura of power and majesty. It clearly possesses many natural weapons and was perhaps a fearsome predator. It would be a challenge even for one such as I, to best this creature in combat."

Additional Notes:

Paper, pencil

Various techniques can be seen in Ally Vyner's array of sketches. Some of the things she noted were, 'line weight, cross hatching, shading, reflected light,  continuous line, scumbling.'

Analysis suggests this was a common practice when artists in the 21st century would manually try and better their skills though labor.

"This sketch book is filled with so many treasures. There are so many things to explore, where do I start? I could look through it for hours! The range of techniques give insight to the learning process of the 21st century, requiring many hours of manual work to become a master. "

EVA foam, contact cement, wood glue, acrylic paints

The artist cut various sword pieces out using exacto blades and scissors. The two sword sides where then glued together and then scored with a blade to create the cubes. A heat gun was used to open these lines up. The sword was then primed with 3 layers of wood glue and painted with acrylic paints.

See making of video below

"There have been several of these swords found dating back to 2020 and even earlier. They link back to a popular video game, “Minecraft,” which is a sandbox video game with a 3d 8-bit art style. This one stands out above the rest as it looks to be hand-made out of EVA foam. It seems to be well maintained and considered a prized object by Ally Vyner."

The artist filmed the process of her making this 'Minecraft' sword. It is suspected this was in order to accomplish some sort of task that she was presented with. The video was quick in perplexing the analytics team, as it's purpose is unclear.

Analytics suggests that this dragons tail piece was one of a larger project that Ally did not document. However, links to other art around the world from previous years suggest that it could be a part of a business card holder.

"Ally sure had a fascination with Fantasy objects... Her craftsmanship of this piece is particularly neat!"

"I see... so they used to write business information on little pieces of card? ...And used this artefact as a receptacle for those cards? ...You're telling me people collected a new card for each new person they met? Fascinating..."
